Happy Birthday Jesus Cake

I know this is a long recipe, but give it a chance and read it thru. You can shortcut some of the steps by not piping icing symbols. Just add plastic holly, yellow pipe cleaner star outline, etc. I have decorated cakes for 34 years, so tend to get tecnical when decorating cakes.
I want to share this recipe with all of you who believe in the true meaning of Christmas. It helps teach little ones and adults too that "Jesus is the Reason for the Season"
"Happy Birthday Jesus" Cake
1 White Cake mix
1 Strawberry Cake Mix
1 Chocolate Cake Mix
4 Cans white Frosting, or you can use a stabilized
whipped cream, ie: "Pastry Pride" thawed and whipped
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Assemble pans you will be using. This cake makes one very large 10" 3 layer cake or two 8" 3 layer cakes. I like to make the two 8" cakes and give one to our church for their Christmas Eve service.
Our Pastor usually gives it away to a family of need at the end of the evening.

Prepare cake pans by lining the bottom with parchment paper or cut circles out of a brown paper bag. Never use waxed paper! Spray bottoms and sides of pans with cooking spray. Mix the cake mixes according to the directions on package. Make each flavor seperatly and pour into prepared pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until it tests done with a toothpick inserted into middle comes out clean. Cool in pans for about 30 minutes. Remove from pans. Don't remove paper at this point. Place on cardboard rounds or a cookie sheet, top side up. Cover with plastic wrap and chill overnight in refrigerator or freeze for up to a month before assembling cake. Thaw for an hour before making cake.
To Assemble Cake:
Reserve 1 cup of frosting. Using food color (professional colors work best) Tint 1/3 cup yellow and 1/2 cup holly green and 2 Tablespoons red. Leave rest of icing white. Slice tops of cakes off if there is any "hump" to make layers level. Save tops for later use. Stack layers of cake on serving plate, spreading about 1/4" of icing in between each layer. Begin and end with any flavor you wish as long as you use 1 white, 1 strawberry, & 1 chocolate layer for each cake. Frost cake with a very thin coat of icing to seal in crumbs. Set in fridge for about 30 minutes to firm up. Add final coat of frosting to cover entire cake, smoothing as much as possible.
To DecorateCake: If you feel brave you may pipe borders around top & bottom of cake with # 22 tip. If not, cake will be fine without them, just a little less professional looking.
Using a template or draw freehand a 5 point star with points comming to edge of cake. With yellow icing in a piping bag, Cut a hole about !/4" in tip of bag. Fill in star shape and smooth with an icing spatula dipped in hot water.
Slide an 8" red tapered candle into the center of the star.
Place green and red icing into piping bags. Snip off a small corner to make a hole about 1/8" around. In a wavy motion, pipe a continous vine around top and bottom of cake. Flatten end of bag and cut a "V" shape. This will make a leaf design. Hold Bag with V side up and with a wiggly motion. Pipe leaves in clusters of 3 to look like holly, space about 3" apart along vines. Cut small hole in red icing bag and pipe red holly berries in the center of holly. Add a baby Jesus laying in the hay on top of the cake by the candle. You can pipe hay to lay the baby Jesus in by adding a little brown color to the yellow to make "straw" colored icing. Pipe an oval built up around sides and then strands of hay going over the sides. Add a small plastic baby (1 1/2 - 2") wrapped in a piece of gauze. With red icing bag, write on top of cake "Happy Birthday Jesus"
The Symbalic Meaning of the Cake:
1. The colors of the inside of the cake represents all God's children, the people of all nations.
2. The star represents the Star of Bethlehem that led the Wise Men to Our Savior.
3. The holly vine represents the everlasting life we recieved when we accepted Jesus into our lives.
4. The red candle represents the blood that Jesus Christ shed for all of us.
5. The flame of the lit candle represents the light of Jesus that shines from within of all who believe in Him.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!
