Hoppin John And Hog Jowl

hoppin jon and hog jowl

2 cups dried blackeyed peas
1/4 pound cured hog jowl or bacon
2 cups cooked rice
salt and pepper to taste

pick over peas to get discolored ones out.wash and soak in 1 1/2 quart of cold water for 6 hours or overnight.drain.in cooking pot,,add about 1-1/2 quart of water,meat,salt and pepper. cook until tender --about 40 minutes or so--add rice and heat,till all hot serve with hot corn breads and side salads,
