Foods That Boost Metabolism
Foods That Increase Metabolism
by Andrew Bicknell
In the never ending battle to lose weight people have tried all
sorts of calorie cutting diets, energy boosting pills and the
latest “Fat Buster” exercise machine seen on late night TV.
During this quest to burn off the fat they come to realize that
maybe what they are doing is not working as well as advertised.
The reality is that if we give our bodies the nutrition that
they need by eating healthy nutrient dense foods we’ve already
won half the battle.
What happens when we eat healthy nutritious food? Our bodies
respond by increasing our metabolism, which in turn burns away
extra fat. Now while this is rather simplified and loosing
weight can require a little more effort as far as exercising
and eating right in a nut-shell this is the first best step to
loosing excess weight.
One of the first things we must understand is how our body uses
and stores energy. Our bodies get their energy from the foods we
eat but that energy comes in many different forms. We can get it
from protein, carbohydrates and fat and there are different
forms of these as well. It’s how our bodies use these various
forms of energy that affect our metabolism.
In the case of fat our bodies have very little trouble
converting them directly into fat stores for future use.
Because fats tend to get sent directly to fat storage the body
uses very little energy, or calories, accomplishing this. This
is also true of simple carbohydrates, usually in the form of
refined sugars, found throughout most of our diets. The body
not only uses very little energy converting these refined
sugars into fat the huge amounts of sugar the average person
eats causes the body to release larger amounts of insulin to
deal with this sugar overload. These higher insulin levels
stimulate our appetites to eat more and increase the rate at
which we store excess calories as fat tissue.
Foods that increase metabolism include those foods that are
high in complex carbohydrates and proteins. Why? Because
complex carbohydrates and proteins require more energy for the
body to break down and use. This results in extra calories
being burned just for the sake of digestion and cellular
metabolism.
Foods that are high in complex carbohydrates also help to
increase our metabolism in another way. Because complex
carbohydrates take longer to break down by the bodies digestive
system the release of the caloric energy is spread out over a
longer period of time. This results in less insulin being
released into the blood stream and a more balanced energy flow
during our waking hours resulting in less snacking on sugary
sweets. Sugars and fats on the other hand tend to cause energy
spikes followed by a low period during which we are tempted to
eat more of these fat producing foods to re-energize ourselves.
Most of the complex carbohydrates we eat come from fruits and
vegetables. Fruits and vegetables can help increase our
metabolism in one other way. They are high in fiber and our
bodies’ burn more calories digesting fiber then just about
anything else. In fact it is theorized that many fruits and
vegetables fall into the “negative calorie” categories of
foods. A negative calorie food is one that actually takes more
calories to digest then it actually contains. The resulting
increase in metabolism from eating negative calorie foods can
help burn away excess body fat stores and result in a gradual
weight loss. When combined with a moderate exercise program the
weight loss and metabolism increase can be even greater.
As you can see the foods that increase metabolism are healthy,
nutrient dense foods. Steering clear of processed foods and
refined sugars is key to not only increasing metabolism but
also living a healthy fat free life.

How To Cook Barbeque Ribs
How To Cook Barbeque Ribs
Author: Andrew Bicknell
Nothing says barbeque quite like a rack of ribs covered in
finger licking good barbeque sauce. If prepared correctly there
is nothing better than bbq ribs. But for many people barbequing
ribs can be difficult because they need to be slow cooked to
bring out the flavor and taste. Slow cooking ribs on a grill is
an art form that can be hard to duplicate if you dont have the
patience or know how to do it right. But never fear there are
ways to take the guess work out of how to cook barbeque ribs.
First off lets look at the different types of ribs you can
barbeque.
Pork Baby Back Ribs Probably the most well known and
easiest to cook. They are tender and can be cooked quickly on
the grill.
Pork Spare Ribs These are bigger than baby back ribs and
take quite a bit longer to cook.
Beef Ribs The largest of all ribs they take a considerable
amount of time to cook, particularly if you want them to be
tender as they are tougher than pork ribs. It is best to braise
them before grilling
Beef Short Ribs Also need to be slow cooked to bring out
the tenderness. Much like beef ribs.
The problem most people have when it comes to barbequing ribs
is either overcooking them, which leads to dry and tough ribs,
or not cooking them long enough which can be a potential health
hazard. One would guess that that is why most of the time they
get overcooked.
There are ways around this problem. You can pre-cook your ribs
either by boiling, steaming or slow cooking them in the oven
before you put them on the grill. Make sure you pre-season your
ribs before using these methods as this will help bring out the
flavor in your ribs. Many people boil or steam their ribs with
beer which not only adds flavor but also tenderizes the meat
making it fall off the bone. You can pre-cook your ribs from
anywhere from 1 to 4 hours depending on which method you are
using.
Once they have been pre-cooked just throw them on the grill for
5-10 minutes a side and brush on your favorite barbeque sauce.
Before you know it you will have perfectly grilled ribs that
are ready to eat.

Jamaican Oxtails, Rice and Peas
For those who requested an oxtail recipe this is one
of my favorites. Have the butcher cut your oxtails
small instead of in the large pieces that are usually
sold in the supermarkets.
Jamaican Oxtails:
4 tbsp olive oil
3 lbs oxtails cut small
salt and pepper
1 medium onion diced
1/2 c carrots diced
1/4 c celery diced
2 tbsp grated ginger
1/4 c scallions
2 cloves garlic
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 1/2 c flour
1 bottle Stout beer
1 1/2 c beef stock
1/2 tsp allspice
1 tbsp chopped parsley
In a dutch oven heat olive oil. Season oxtails with
salt and pepper to taste and brown. Remove from pan
and sautee onions, carrots, celery, and ginger till
soft. Add tomato paste and stir till mixed, then add
flour and cook aprox 3 minutes. Add beer and bring to
a boil. Add stock, allspice, and browned oxtails and
bring to a boil. Reduce and simmer and 2 hrs covered.
Garnish with parsley and serve over rice and peas.
Rice and Peas:
1 1/2 c dry red kidney beans, cow peas or pinto beans
2 cloves garlic
1/2 c unsweetened coconut milk
3 scallions
1 scotch bonnet pepper diced
3 sprigs thyme
1 1/2 long grain rice
salt and pepper
Soak beans overnight then cook in a pot with garlic,
salt and pepper to taste and water 1 1/2 to 2 hrs till
tender. Then add milk, scallion, scotch bonnet and
thyme. Bring to a boil then add rice. Cook till
tender.
Note about scotch bonnet peppers:
Although these peppers are small they are EXTREMELY
hot and should be handled with care. Wear rubber
gloves when handeling to ensure the peppers dont touch
any scratches that may be on your hands and make sure
you wash your hands thouroughly afterwards. To reduce
heat remove seeds or only use half the pepper instead
of a whole one.

Tiramisu Cheesecake Recipe
Serves 12
Stories are told about how Tiramisu was the favorite of Venice's
courtesans, who needed a "pick me up" (the literal translation
of "tirami-su") to fortify themselves between their amorous
encounters. True? Probably not. But it makes for a colorful
history.
Its American popularity arose in San Francisco, and today,
Tiramisu is one of the most asked for desserts in restaurants.
Butter for greasing pan
1 (20-ounce) pound cake (store bought or homemade)
1 tablespoon brandy
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup strong coffee, preferably espresso
3 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, room temperature
1 cup sugar
3 large eggs
2 ounces sweet chocolate, such as a plain milk chocolate candy
bar, minced 1 teaspoon Dutch-processed cocoa powder
1. Grease a 9-inch springform pan. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
2. Cut half of the pound cake into 1/2-inch slices. Place them
in a single layer in the bottom of a prepared springform pan. Fit
them in patchwork style, pushing pieces together to form a
complete layer of cake at the bottom of the pan.
3. In a medium bowl, combine brandy, vanilla, sugar and coffee;
stir to dissolve sugar. Cut remaining pound cake into 1/2-inch
cubes. Add to bowl and gently toss to coat cake cubes with syrup.
Set aside.
4. In a large bowl of an electric mixer, mix cream cheese on low
speed until softened, about 1 minute. Add sugar and mix on low
until blended, scraping down sides of bowl a couple of times. Add
eggs, one at a time, mixing after each addition. Mix only until
well-blended.
5. Place half of the cream cheese mixture in prepared pan.
Sprinkle with cubed pound cake. Press down gently so that part
of the cubes sink down into the cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle
with minced chocolate. Add remaining cream cheese mixture.
Smooth top with a rubber spatula.
6. Place cocoa powder in a fine sieve and sprinkle on top of
cheesecake. Wrap heavy-duty aluminum foil around the outside of
the springform pan. Place pan in a large roasting or baking pan.
Place baking pan containing springform pan in oven and fill
outside pan with enough water to come 1 inch up the side of the
springform pan.
7. Bake 55 minutes or until lightly colored and cheesecake looks
set (it can still jiggle slightly in the center).
Remove cheesecake from hot water. Place on wire rack and cover
loosely with paper towel.
Allow to cool completely. Cover with plastic wrap and chill
thoroughly.

Holiday Eating Tips
1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.
2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt scotch, it's rare. In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch. You can't find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-aholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!
3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.
4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.
5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?
6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.
7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.
8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or, if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?
9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.
10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Reread tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner.
Remember this motto to live by:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
Have an amazing holiday season!

My Top Website Traffic Generation Techniques
My Top Website Traffic Generation Techniques
Copyright 2006 By Willie Crawford
I recently conducted a 2 1/2 hour teleseminar that I entitled
"Website Traffic Generation Techniques That Work." I conducted
the teleseminar for two reasons:
1) I was partnering with two esteemed clients/friends in
creating an in-demand product. Our combined knowledge and
experience guaranteed a website traffic generation product
better than any similar product that I'd seen recently!
2. I was tired of seeing so many people with websites getting
practically ZERO traffic when it is so easy. I wanted to
explain to my subscribers and clients, in a plain-English
fashion, some very effective but simple methods of getting
visitors to their websites.
My websites currently get so much traffic that, while we
could always use more traffic, I no longer worry about
getting website traffic. I've reached what my friend Jack
Humphrey termed critical mass - that point at which one
could actually stop promoting for a while and the traffic
would continue.
When you look at website traffic generation - big picture -
it's just a matter of identifying where your ideal traffic is,
and "standing in front of it!" Here's are just a few ways
that I do that. We covered many more in the teleseminar.
These are all fast and easy to implement:
- Article Writing - Write 300 - 1000 word articles on topics
that your market cares about. Make sure that the articles
address a problem, worry or challenge that your market
faces. In the article point them to solutions that they can
find on your website. It's that simple.
- Affiliate Programs - With an affiliate program, you have
others send you traffic, and you don't spend a penny until
that traffic converts into sales.
You can set up a simple affiliate program selling an ebook
through Clickbank or PayDotCom.com and have an army of
people working hard to send you customers in no time.
If you don't have a product, you can take private label
products, and with a little effort, create products that
your market will be clamoring for, and that affiliates will
be thrilled to market for you. The best duplicable SYSTEM
that I've seen for doing this was developed by Louis Burleson.
You can learn all about Louis' easy to implement system at:
http://NoHypeInternetMarketing.com/TheKey/
- Ebay Sales - With over 100 million registered users, Ebay
is simply too big to ignore as a source of traffic. The most
important thing about that incredible number of Ebay users
is that they are buyers. They visit Ebay with credit card
in hand, and all you need to do is be there with the
products that they are looking for.
By some estimates that I've seen, Ebay gets MORE searches
per day than Google!
There are dozens of ways for you to lure some of those
millions of visitors to your website. Ebay even makes
it easy for you to sift through their database and see
WHAT the most common things are that people are searching
for. What could be easier? You sift through their database,
determine what lots of their users are searching for and
then create simple information product that cater to those
concerns. Then you advertise on Ebay, extremely
inexpensively, letting people know that you have the
solutions over at your website.
- Organic Search Engine Traffic - This seems mysterious
or difficult to many people. However, if you understand that
people visit the search engines seeking solutions to their
problems, then it's as simple as determining what problems
a lot of people are searching for solutions to, creating
solutions to those problems, and then making people aware
of the solutions through content on your site.
As an example, this article addresses the massive problem
of most websites not having enough traffic. It tells them of
the solutions offered on my site, and finally the article
facilitates the search engines telling searchers that
my site is where they'll find the solution. I'll feed this
article to the search engines through my article distribution
channels.
- Social Networking Sites - Sites such as MySpace, Youtube,
and dozens of bookmarking sites, get millions of users
every day. MySpace rapidly grew into the sixth most
visited site on the Internet.
MySpace users set up accounts and conveniently categorize
themselves into interest groups. Using very simple techniques,
you can redirect massive traffic from MySpace to your
website. You can also build your mailing list by interacting
with targeted niches on MySpace. The other social networking
sites function similarly.
- One of the easiest ways to get massive, extremely targeted
traffic is through joint ventures. Through joint ventures,
you get those who already have the attention, trust, and
loyalty of the traffic, to send their traffic to your
sales page. This is totally risk free and one of the
easiest and fastest ways to grow a web business.
Through organizations such as The International Association
Of Joint Venture Brokers (IAJVB), you find large list owners,
product owners, or joint venture brokers. You set up huge,
mutually beneficial partnerships, and leverage your combined
assets. You can get more information on using IAJVB at:
http://TheInternationalAssociationOfJointVentureBrokers.com
In the teleseminar, we also covered generating an endless
flood of highly targeted visitors through methods such
as publishing a newsletter, blogging, creating viral ebooks
and software, creating educational or entertaining multi-
media products, etc. We showed that there as so many
ordinary, easily-implement traffic generation methods that
there really is no reason for any website to suffer from
a lack of traffic.
Actually, I'll retract that statement. Your website does
have to be about something that people are interested in.
There does have to be enough people in the world interested
in your niche to offer you a pool of people that you can
"stand in front of."
I've just shared with you my top website traffic generation
technique. Now all you need to do is implement them. You can
discover many more by listening to the MP3 recordings or
reading the PDF transcripts from my recent teleseminar at:
