I’ve spent many years building and cultivating my lists. I’ve
put a lot of time, energy, and money into building my lists
through numerous means.

Now, I consider that my most valuable business asset. Actually,
it’s the relationship that I have with the individual list members,
but the physical database is also priceless!

If you look around at anyone with a list about 5000, you’ll actually
have a very difficult time getting them to do a solo mailing to
their list. The reason is because we can send a mailing for one
of our own products and generally earn MUCH more than someone
would be willing to pay.

Still, I need to put a value on the mailing. To me, a reasonable
value for a list where the list owner has worked long and hard
at cultivating a relationship with that list would be say $200 per
1000 subscribers.

If you sent an email to such a list and you couldn’t earn at least
$200 per 1000 subscribers then either:

A) You product was really horrible and savvy subscribers could see
right through that.

B) Your advertising copy was horrible

or

c) Spam filter, etc., blocked a high percentage of the email from
being delivered. In this latter case, that’s also a version of “B”
because you shouldn’t use a lot of elements in your email that
will trigger spam filters. You should run all potential emails
through something like that scores the email BEFORE you send it,
and if it scores higher than maybe a 2-3, I’d revise the email.

So, $200 per 1000 x 120 = $24,000

I used earning $200 per 1000 subscribers in my break-even analysis
because when you add in backend profits even that number of front
end sales should generate a LOT of total profits.
